The feathering shaft (horizontal spindle axle) is the foundational support core that bears the massive centrifugal pulling forces of the spinning rotor blades. In 3D stunt mode, executing rapid negative-to-positive pitch transitions and inverted loops creates intense bending stress at the blade grip pivot point. If your horizontal spindle shafts become microscopically bent or loose due to continuous aerobatic strain, the rotor blades will develop lateral play and vertical tracking splits. For the 1:48 scale RC ERA C170 Longbow Apache, this mechanical slop causes heavy airframe vibration, cuts down your collective punch, and destabilizes the flybarless flight control system. Replacing your strained components with this factory-fresh, hardened steel feathering shaft set completely eliminates lateral blade grip play, restores crisp mechanical pitch execution, and ensures stable, arrow-straight tracking planes during extreme 3D maneuvers. Product Highlights
High-Tensile Hardened Stainless Steel Alloy: Engineered from industrial-grade carbon steel treated to resist flexing, bending, and shearing under aggressive high-G 3D loads.
Precision Factory-Drilled Alignment Holes: Features exact millimeter-tolerance locating holes to ensure perfectly aligned anchoring for your main gear and rotor head block.
Heavy-Duty Metal Retaining Locking Collar: Includes a matching solid metal stop ring designed to eliminate vertical axis play along the main frame bearing track.
All-In-One Full Restoration Fastener Pack: Comes complete with factory-spec socket screws to save you from searching for microscopic loose hardware during an overhaul.
Compatibility
For the RC ERA C170 1:48 Scale Longbow Apache RC Helicopter only. Full model page (specs & photos):
Extracting the Bent Main Shaft: Disconnect the upper rotor head linkages and remove the upper head block pins; unfasten the lower main gear securing screw underneath the belly frame and slide the damaged shaft upward out of the body bearing blocks.
Positioning the Retaining Locking Collar: Slide the new silver shaft down through the top frame bearings, making sure to slip the metal locking collar onto the shaft right against the top bearing face to prevent up-and-down vertical endplay.
Securing the Rotor Head and Main Gear Screws: Line up the pre-drilled cross-holes with your lower main gear hub and upper rotor head sleeve; insert the included factory screws and tighten them securely, taking care not to over-torque or strip the composite plastic threads.
Pre-Flight Axis Radial Runout Alignment Check: Rotate the main rotor blade assembly by hand before connecting your flight battery; look closely down the line of the shaft to confirm it spins 100% true with zero orbital wobble, ensuring stable automated flight leveling on your next scale mission.
